FAQs

DSSLog for Windows

1. I get an "Error in Formula" error message when I run a report, and the report never displays.

This is caused by having a single quote character in either a user-defined column name OR the name of the report itself (for example, "Joe's Multiengine Time"). Remove the offending single quote and the problem goes away.

2. I get an "The report width is greater than the paper width" error message when I run a report, and the report never displays.

This problem was fixed in version 1.38.  You should upgrade to the latest version of the product on the downloads page.

3. I want to import my logbook data into DSSLog.  How can I do this?

DSSCalc for Windows

1. While Installing I get an error message about file DDEML.DLL in use.

This message indicates you own an older version of DSSCalc, as the new installation program doesn't give this message (perhaps you got older shelf stock from your FBO).  No problem, just call us with your serial number and we'll email you the latest version!

2. Can I use Imperial Gallons (or some other measure of volume) instead of US gallons in the calculations?

Yes! As long as you always use the SAME unit of measure for gallon on every screen, DSSCalc really doesn't care what units of measure you use for fuel.  HOWEVER, you must change the "Fuel Lbs/Gal" conversion factor on the "Conversion | Volume/Weight" screen if you want the calculations involving fuel weight to also be correct.  The default value is "6.0" for the standard 6 pounds per gallon of AvGas; change this to "7.2" pounds per imperial gallon. PLEASE NOTE, the calculations shown for "Liters" and "Liters/Hour" will NO LONGER be correct, however the "Fuel Flow (Lbs/Hour)", "Fuel (pounds)", "Fuel Flow (kg/hr)", and "Fuel (kilograms)" will still be valid.

3. Can I have a different kind of fuel than AvGas (Jet-A, Autogas, etc.)?

Yes! All you need to do is change the "Fuel Lbs/Gal" conversion factor on the "Conversion | Volume/Weight" screen to the proper weight of your fuel per gallon.  The default value is "6.0" for the standard 6 pounds per gallon of AvGas, but you can modify it to the correct value for your fuel of choice.

1. What is the password to the downloaded update I got from your web site?

Call or email us to get the password.  Be sure to include your serial number and the update you are tyring to install.

2. I own the Palm OS (or other version) of DSSxxxx, and I just changed to a Pocket PC (or other device with a completely different OS).  Can I update my program to the other version?

Sorry, no.  For each platform, Palm/Windows/Pocket PC/Android, the compilers and source code are completely different.  They are in effect different programs entirely, and each platform requires a separate license to use the software.
